The basic constituents of FRP, which include fibers such as carbon, aramid, and glass, and a resin matrix.CarbonWrap™ Composites , supplies all types of fibers as needed for specific projects. The fibers can be in the form of a flexible fabric or precured strips, which are saturated in the field and bonded to the substrate using a specially formulated structural epoxy.

The advantages of using Carbon(FRP) Composites, include corrosion resistance, lightweight, high strength, easy installation, flexibility, and low cost. The strength-to-weight ratio of Carbon(FRP) exceeds that of steel by fifty times.

Applications of CarbonWrap in strengthening various structural elements to increase the flexural and shear strength of concrete beams, as well as to repair cracked steel girders. Test results show that CarbonWrap™ Composites can restore the full capacity of cracked girders and increase their fatigue life. The effectiveness of Carbon(FRP) in providing strength to structures against explosions is tested at a site where two identical concrete block walls were built, one retrofitted with CarbonWrap™ Composites product BlastGuard™ ™ and the other used as a control. The retrofitted wall survived the blast completely, protecting the inside.

Carbon(FRP) significantly increases the in-plane and out-of-plane strengths of un-reinforced masonry and brick buildings. Highlighted by the lightweight and easy installation of Carbon(FRP) Composites , which converts a brittle, unreinforced masonry structure into a reinforced and ductile structure. The use of Carbon(FRP) to increase the flexural capacity of concrete slabs explains how CarbonWrap™ Composites fabrics or strips can be bonded to the bottom or top of slabs to increase flexural strength and reduce deflections.

Carbon(FRP) should be installed using CarbonWrap™ Composites , when there is a need to increase the load carrying capacity of a structure due to functional changes, to make up for lost strength due to the deterioration of steel reinforcement, and to increase ductility and protect against earthquake and explosion forces. Carbon(FRP) adds only one-eighth of an inch to the thickness of the existing structure, preserving its original inertia properties and requiring no foundation modifications. Carbon(FRP) does not reduce overhead clearance, alter the original architectural features of the structure, require bolting or dowling, and requires minimal access for installation. CarbonWrap™ Composites projects costs less and requires minimal skills for installation, and the materials are durable and require minimal maintenance.
